Ludogorets defeated Slavia in the 1/8 final of the Bulgarian Cup. The regular time score was 2:2, and the additional penalty kicks shaped the final 6:5.

The champions’ coach Antoni Zdravkov made a lot of changes to the team composition. Only Cicinho, Natanael, Dyakov and Wanderson were included in comparison with the previous game. Yankov, the 18-year old player who came from the Ludogorets Academy, also began the game as one of the main players.

Ludogorets began the game with a high pace. Sasha failed to receive a pass and Swierczok tried to score with his head after that but the Polish player’s attempt was not accurate. He had the chance to score a surprising goal in the 8th minute after outplaying Karabelyov. Swierczok sent a powerful shot but the ball went straight into the left gate beam.

Slavia took the lead in the 14th minute. Ivanov kicked the ball after a foul and Broun was not prepared for that. The Slavia player sent the ball directly into the home team’s net. Ludogorets responded when Yankov broke through in the other team’s half but his attempt to score was not powerful enough. Ivanov took a chance immediately after that but the ball went above the crossbar. Swierczok outplayed Slavia’s defense line and tried to score from a small angle but Petkov saved. Just a few seconds later Bakalov kicked the ball from the corner point. The ball went to Forster who passed to Swierczok. The Polish player tried to score with his head but the keeper did not allow room for mistakes. Wanderson tried to do the same in the following situation but he missed the target. Sasha made another attempt to score a goal in the 29th minute with a far distance shot but the ball went flying over the gate.

Ludogorets made the score even in the 35th minute! Swierczok was unstoppable and passed through Slavia’s defense, outplaying Gamakov, Hristov and Uzunov. The keeper threw himself to the ground in an attempt to save but failed to do so. The guest team made a mistake in the 40th minute when the ball was in Wanderson’s possession but Petkov threw himself at his feet and caught it. The Brazilian kicked the ball skillfully after that but it went out. Natanael passed to Wanderson in the final minutes of the first half and he tried to score, but the keeper saved once again.

Dyakov and Natanael both attempted a goal in the first fifteen minutes of the second part but the keeper showed his skills. Marcelinho sent the ball out in the 70th minute after he tried to score. Four minutes later Ludogorets turned the score around. Cicinho passed to Swierczok who was not bothered by Hristov’ presence at all and sent the ball in Slavia’s gate, making the score 2:1. Slavia responded immediately and Ivanov was able to kick the ball sending it between Terziev.s legs. Broun did not intervene in the best possible way and the score became even – 2:2.

This is why there was some time added to the game. Swierczok created a situation in the 99th minute but Gamakov was able to kick the ball out.before the Polish player could pass to Keseru. Swierczok hit the gate beam once again only seconds after that. The ball reached him after Lukoki was stopped by Gamakov. Keseru had a good opportunity to score in the 111th minute, but it was as if Petkov’s gate had a spell on and the ball went out again.

There was no football to see in the last ten minutes, because all the Slavia players did was stall the game. This is why the time for penalty kicks came. Shokolarov was the first to score and Swierczok made the score even after that. Uzunov added another goal for Slavia after that. Sasha was the first player to miss. Ivanov added a third goal from the penalty point for Slavia. Lukoki was accurate and right after that Broun saved Gamakov’s attempt. The last penalty shot was turned into a goal by Keseru, who left no chances to Petkov.
